Inspired by an article I read in Hello Giggles (http://hellogiggles.com/study-abroad-memories-from-london-with-love) about studying abroad, I am gonna reminisce my own studying abroad experience.
That one year, was the best year of my life, so far.
There were, obviously, ups and downs, but to sum it up, the year was just awesome.
I can still remember being in the plane with mixed feelings. Sad to leave my loved ones back home, excited to start my new life, also nervous of whatever challenges I might had to face.
I remember the awe I felt when I reached Heathrow Airport. I remember the drops of tiny tears falling down for whatever reasons when I was trying to find my way out.
I remember waiting for the coach to Bournemouth. I remember sending my first text to Mum back home, telling her that I’ve safely arrived.
I remember meeting Andrew, my first friend in the UK, as he picked me up in Bournemouth Coach Station.
I remember my first day in Uni, registration day, where I met my class mates for the first time. Obviously, I also remember my next Uni days, the classes, lunches, Pub hang out times, parties, assignments, projects, presentations, sleepless nights, everything!
I remember the people I met, the friends I made, the places I went, the sceneries I saw; I can still remember them all.
Now here’s an excerpt from the article, which I found very true.
“And that’s the best thing about living (and studying) abroad. You realize you can adapt to anything, and grow to love it. Your definition of home, and your understanding of the world around you, expands. It wasn’t one momentous, life-changing moment, but the simple day-to-day experiences, that defined my time in England”
I learned that I can adapt to anything. Those day-to-day experiences while I was in England, simple or extravagant, helped to shape me. A better me, I should say, with more understanding towards myself, and my surroundings.
My one year in the UK has given me so much valuable lessons, and I am forever grateful to be given such opportunity. Alhamdulilah, thank you God :)
