day 19

day nineteen - nicknames you have - why do you have them?

oh this is a fun post! hehehe. if you know me well, you know that i have quite a number of nicknames. let's go through them one by one...
the first is my "official" nickname, christa . i called it official because it's the nickname that my parents gave me. it's short for "christina juwita" . now when i was a kid, i could not pronounce it clearly.. so i called myself chita. and my family started to call me that as well. chita, or sometimes, "chit..." when they call me.

up until middle school, i only had two nicknames. but when i was in highschool, i got a new nickname, which is chichi. and surprisingly, that nickname stayed with me until now. it is soooo hard to get rid of that nickname! even some friends now me as chichi rather than christa. hahahahaha..
okay, let me tell you the story behind the name. its rather silly actually..
during highschool, we often got called by our names according to the alphabet, to check on the attendance list. on the 11th grade, my name was right after Chaca, a friend of mine. That one day, Pak Abah, my Islamic teacher, who is famous for being iseng, called "Chaca! Chichi!" when he was checking the attendance list. I protested, of course, knowing that my name was supposed to be called right after Chaca's. his defense was.. "your name is too long, let's keep it to Chichi to make it easier for me when i called you, so after Chaca, it's gonna be Chichi!"
and the whole class laughed. some of them started calling me chichi just as a joke.. but what confuses me until now is how that nickname can spread to other classes.. =_=
totally pointless, i know.. hahahaha. but the thing is, almost all of my highschool friends called me chichi from that day. and since we basically have the same group of friendship, everyone called me chichi too.
i tried to get rid of the nickname when i got into university. i introduced myself as "christa". but.. most of my friends from highschool got into the same uni, and once they started to call me chichi, everyone, who used to call me christa, called me chichi as well!!! x_x
to make it worse.. my boyfriend's family also know me as chichi, because we were highschool friends... =_= im gonna have to ask him to explain about my original nickname, just in case they wanna come to my family for something.. hahahaha *blush*
cant imagine if they came and ask for "chichi", and my mom said, "i dont have a daughter called chichi.." aaa, must be a confusing day! LOL (okay.. of course that's not gonna happen! prevention people.. prevention... lol)

oh, i did manage to keep "christa" as my nickname in the UK, also when i was working, hehehe. hopefully will be able to keep it as well in my new job... *fingers crossed* :D
